Why Heritage Builders Matters

Heritage Builders exists because too many young people leave foster care with little positive adult support, limited life skills, and minimal resources, and the outcomes can be devastating. Without intervention, aging out alone increases the likelihood of school dropout, unplanned pregnancy, human trafficking, incarceration, chronic homelessness, and the painful repetition of generational cycles. Fellowship Bible Church is stepping in during these planning and launch years to help remove barriers and build up people through consistent, relational support.

Through the Heritage Builders Fund, our Heritage Builders Coordinator, and trained adult Advocates, we provide a family of support for Kansas youth transitioning from foster care to independence. Each month, Fellowship hosts a two-hour Heritage Builders class with life skills training, a shared meal, and time with Advocates. Advocates also connect with youth weekly while we host several “fun nights” each year to build trust through consistent presence. Volunteers are background-checked, screened, and equipped with trauma-informed training and ongoing support, in partnership with Lifeline Children’s Services. The name “Heritage Builders” reflects the heart of the program: the future does not have to be dictated by the past, and these young adults are not projects to fix but people to strengthen for a fruitful adulthood.
