Put It Into Practice:

Here are a few practical ways to help your child grow in their understanding and love of God's Word:

Choose a Bible

Select a Bible translation that your child can read and understand (NIV and NLT are a great place to start). As they begin reading Scripture, teach them how to find passages by locating the book, chapter, and verse. Helping your child become familiar with navigating the Bible builds confidence and encourages them to engage with God's Word on their own.

Personally Model It

Children are more likely to value Scripture when they see their parents valuing it. Let your child see you reading the Bible, talking about what God is teaching you, and turning to Scripture for wisdom and guidance.

You cannot pass on a love for God's Word if it is not first present in your own life. You cannot give what you do not have. Share what you are learning and how God's Word is shaping your life.

Use Scripture as a Guide

Help your child see that the Bible is more than a book we read at church. God's Word provides wisdom and guidance for everyday life.

When your child faces challenges, asks difficult questions, or needs direction, open Scripture together and search for God's wisdom. Teach them that the Bible is a trustworthy guide for every season of life.

Keep It Simple

Don't feel like you need to cover everything at once. Sometimes a single verse or truth can have a lasting impact.

Choose a simple truth from Scripture and talk about it often throughout the week. Repetition helps God's Word take root in a child's heart.

Make It Engaging

Help God's Word come alive through creative and meaningful experiences.

• Act out Bible stories together.
• Use worship music and Scripture songs to help memorize verses.
• Read from children's Bibles and Bible storybooks.
• Use games, crafts, or hands-on activities to reinforce biblical truths.
• Create opportunities for discussion rather than simply providing answers.
• As your children encounter different situations, go back to Scripture to help guide them.

Learn Together

It's okay not to have every answer. Some of the best discipleship moments happen when parents and children learn together.

When your child asks a difficult question, use it as an opportunity to search Scripture together. Model humility by admitting when you don't know something and demonstrating how to seek God's truth and wisdom.

Study It

As your child grows, teach them how to study the Bible for themselves. Encourage them to ask questions such as:

• Who wrote this passage?
• What does this teach me about God?
• What does this teach me about people?
• How can I apply this truth to my life?

Helping your child learn how to study Scripture builds habits that can serve them for a lifetime.

Pray

Ask God to give your child a love for His Word and wisdom to understand and apply it. Pray that Scripture would shape their heart, mind, and relationship with Jesus.
